Évolution

> Exhibition

The Alliance Française is delighted to host Évolution by the collective Devenir.

Évolution is an exhibition by the collective Devenir that illustrates the individual and collective evolution of five Francophone artists over the course of nearly a decade. Through shared experiences, experimentation, and numerous exhibitions, they have enriched the diversity of their work.

About Devenir

Devenir, founded in 2016, is the first collective of professional visual artists working in French in Alberta. The group brings together these five artists, all committed to mutual support and creative exchange. United by a shared mission, the members meet weekly to exchange ideas on individual and collective projects, thereby fostering a spirit of collaboration that enriches each artist’s practice. Since its inception, the collective has exhibited extensively throughout Alberta and beyond, with notable presentations at venues such as the Salmon Arm Arts Centre, the Alliance Française de Calgary, CAVA—the Centre d’Art Visuel Francophone in Edmonton, and the “Trex” exhibition at the Grand Prairie Art Gallery. The collective’s activities encompass individual studio work, group artistic initiatives, and professional development. Every two years, they come together to create a new art installation, pushing the boundaries of their personal artistic practices. At the heart of Collectif Devenir’s mission is the desire to foster creativity through collaboration, while promoting Francophone culture and artistic innovation in Alberta.

 Doris Charest

Nature has always been my greatest source of inspiration. Through my work, I invite viewers to take a moment to pause, observe, and appreciate the beauty of nature. My goal as an artist is to remind others that life, in all its forms, is precious and deserves to be cherished.

Karen Blanchet

Aware of poverty at the age of twelve, Karen came to understand the plight of others. A resident of Edmonton since 2011, she has focused on raising awareness through her paintings, installations, and poetry. A founding member of Devenir, DDK, and Duo, she appreciates both the dynamic of collaborating with other artists and the more traditional solo approach.
